Our projects

Our projects are our core work. We have group projects open to anyone, and other projects for individuals.

Group projects

Oratia Native Corridor

Our goal is to connect a continuous corridor of trees along the Oratia stream from the source (Waitākere Ranges) to the sea (Waitemata Harbour) for the first time in over 100 years. Find out more.

Oratia Sunnyvale Connection

Our anchor project and the focus of our groups rejuvination. Our goal is to plant a continous native corridor from the Kaurimu West Coast Bridge to the Oratia Parrs Cross bridge. This will be the site of a future council shared cycle and walk way. Find our more.

Trapping to save Pekapeka (bats)

We are looking to identify a key Pekapeka habitat to do targetted pest trapping. Watch this space!

Ongoing work

Bird rescue

We support locals to take injured, sick or orphaned native bird to our sister organisation BirdRescue in Greenbay. They are open 9am-3pm, Monday to Saturday at 74 Avonleigh Road, Green Bay, Auckland 0604.

New Residents Pack

All new residents to our area receive a new residents pack on caring for our environment. This project is kindly delivered by the Pest Free Waitākere Ranges Alliance.

Plant for Kererū

Find out what plants will help bring back kererū flocks to the Upper Oratia Catchment. Find out more.

Wildlife Watch

Register your native and exotic wildlife observations on iNaturalist, the world’s largest citizen science project. Help scientists and locals track how well our natives are doing, and monitor the spread of exotics. Find our more.

Past projects

We successfully recorded evidence of Pekapaka, the native long tail bat, near Kelly’s bridge.
